This organisation started off life as a response by the local surfing community to the state of British beaches, with surfers catching waves often finding themselves actually swimming in raw sewage. Now, thanks to all their hard work, the UK has some of the cleanest beaches to be found in Europe.
As well as the sewage issue, there’s also the plague of plastic to consider, pollution that continues to blight beaches and seashores around the country.
SAS works to tackle the issue by changing consumer behaviour and industry standards where single-use plastic is concerned, as well as organising more beach cleans than any other charity in the UK, protecting local beaches so that we can all continue to enjoy them.
